Easy Shred Guitar Tip

Today I’m going to give you a quick and easy shred guitar tip.

After you learn it, you’ll be able to shred up and down the fretboard like a pro!

The shred guitar tip

For a quick shred guitar tip, move in octaves. This means playing a shred shape or pattern in one octave and then moving it up to the next octave.

For example, you can play the B note at the 7th fret of the low e string, one octave higher at the 9th fret of the D string, and one more octave higher at the 12th fret of the B string.

So, in the tab example you’ll play the 7th, 9th, and 10th frets of the E and A strings using your 1st, 2nd, and 4th fingers on your fretting hand. From there, you will use those same fingers to play the same notes at the next octave.

Long story short, playing in octaves is one of the easiest ways to visualize the fretboard  and come up with shred guitar licks on the fly!
